Cigar City is a really phenomenal brewery.
This is the Cubano-Style Espresso Brown Ale is only 5.5% ABV but absolutely a kick in the jaw, dripping with coffee flavor. Highly recommended.
This is just as good as their IPA. That’s two for two for Cigar City, two very excellent beers. They’re distributed to Florida, NYC and Philly. Highly recommended if you can find them. It’s unfortunate they’re not distributed in DC.
The Go Cup
I love New Orleans. One of the many, many things that makes New Orleans great is the to-go cup. You can get a beer or mixed drink and walk down the street with it as long as it is in a plastic container. There are very few things as wonderful as grabbing a decent beer (doesn’t need to be great, NOLA Brown did the job) and walking around a beautiful neighborhood. The people watching on Bourbon Street is great, fantastic music blasting out of every bar, everyone completely amicable and loving it. This also keeps the lines for beers short as you don’t have people huddled by the bars. Great way to spend the night or greatest way to spend a night?

Tommyknocker Maple Nut Brown Ale
Yup, that’s about right.
Small juice glass, poured from bottle, finger head. Smells like maple syrup, raisins, molasses, other health foods.
The taste is initially a great mix of sweet and nutty, a light hoppy bitterness fluctuates in, then it finishes with nuts on the back of the palate, maple syrup on the front. Incredibly aptly named. I really enjoy nut brown ales, Samuel Smith Nut Brown was one of my first favorite beers, this is a sweeter variation of the style, but not so much as to create an overpowering brew. Very enjoyable, drinkable session beer, very accessible to the masses. Recommended style, recommended beer.
